Hello!
ftl here. Now I'm sure you've read my self-introduction, and so you know all about me, so no need to go into that. I'm quite certain the only thing you don't know about me now is why I chose to study Japanese!
My ultimate goal is, in fact, to learn at least the rudiments of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (in that order, in fact). I've already studied Chinese for several years, and I'm planning to study Korean next semester, so Japanese was the natural choice for this semester. Of course, it's also useful when watching anime, ahahaha. I'm really enjoying the course so far -- my knowledge of Japanese has increased by several thousand percent over the past four weeks! I look forward to learning more about Japanese language and culture over the remainder of the semester.

hello!
ReplyDeleteI'm universary student. I'm study Chinese in university. But I am poor at its skill, so I want you to teach me how I study it.
Hello!
DeleteThe last time I took Chinese was a while ago, actually, but as far as I remember, the most important thing was practice! Practice writing out your characters until your writing looks like it was printed; quiz yourself on vocab words until you remember the character, stroke order, pronunciation, tone, and meaning without looking at the book. Try to get a sense for each word by looking at example sentences that use it. For learning tones, it may be helpful to listen to native Chinese speakers, and for learning characters, it may be helpful to learn the most common radicals as well.
Basically, don't give up! You may get hand cramps, and you may get sick of looking at characters, but if you keep practicing you'll only get better!
Hope this helps!

こんばんわ ftlさん。なんのアニメをみますか。I'm a big fan of Naruto/Naruto Shippuden and FMA: Brotherhood. That's so cool how you're planning to learn Chinese, Japanese, and Korean! I've been taking German as a supplement to my music studies (on my fifth year, woohoo), and decided to take Japanese this year on a whim. I've always wanted to learn Japanese, and figured why not now? がんばれ。
ReplyDeleteこんばんわ ふなばしさん!Unfortunately わたしはとてもいそがしいですから、すこしアニメをみます。でも、くろしつじをときどきみます。ふなばしさんは studied German for five years? That's really impressive! おんがくがとてもすきですか。
Deleteこんいちわ!That's awesome that you'll be learning the major East Asian languages! Japanese is my first character-based language and really, my first East Asian language. I want to learn Korean after Japanese, too! I heard the grammar is similar so it's supposed to make the transition between the two easier.
ReplyDeleteI guess we'll find out if that's true or not later on though?
こんばんわ!I actually heard that from my mom, who is a native Korean speaker -- which is another reason I want to study Korean as well. I'm an engineering major, so I don't get to study languages that much (except computer languages.....), but I always find it really cool to compare the similarities and differences between languages.
